Income Verification for Returning Students

Students applying for Boston University financial aid are required to submit income verification documentation to verify income information provided on the PROFILE and FAFSA, even if you elect to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool when you complete your FAFSA.

Applicants who received need-based aid, other than a Federal Stafford Loan (subsidized or unsubsidized), in the prior academic year are required to submit their income documents through the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) portal. All other applicants must submit income documentation directly to BU Financial Assistance.

If you are required to submit your income documents through IDOC we recommend that you upload your signed documents using the IDOC Upload Wizard.  IDOC will electronically image and transmit your income verification documentation to BU Financial Assistance. Tax documents are considered signed if they include either the: 1) wet signature of the tax filer, 2) accountants EIN and/or PTIN number.

Please note the special BU policy regarding how your aid application will be processed if you and/or your parents have not yet filed their income tax return and have requested an extension of the tax filing deadline with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

If you already submitted your income verification documents via IDOC, please do not mail or fax additional copies directly to BU Financial Assistance.
