Dr. Jonathan Shenkin Publishes in Prestigious Textbook

textbook-200Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy & Health Services Research Dr. Jonathan Shenkin recently published a chapter in the notable textbook “Pediatric Dentistry: Infancy through Adolescence.” The chapter provides an overview of dental public health and describes how public health outreach can improve children’s oral health.

In the chapter, Dr. Shenkin writes, “Though treatment of children in an office setting is the cornerstone of pediatric dental practice, it cannot address all the needs of all children because of limited access to dental care and limited capacity. Thus, to optimize the oral health of all children, community–based, public health approaches are necessary.”

“It’s a great honor to be asked to contribute to such a well-regarded text, on one of the most profound public policy issues facing dentistry today,” Dr. Shenkin says.

Dr. Shenkin is a spokesperson for the American Dental Association and has a private practice in pediatric dentistry in Augusta, Maine. His advocacy focuses on effecting change in oral health policy, with particular attention to the oral health of children.
