YouSpeak: Has Tom Brady Been Cleared?
Suspension lifted, can Patriots QB put “Deflategate” behind him?
When the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots host the Pittsburgh Steelers tonight in the NFL season opener, all eyes will be on star quarterback Tom Brady.
For weeks, it was unclear whether Brady would be allowed to play at Gillette Stadium tonight after an NFL investigation of the incident led to a four-game suspension for his alleged role in conspiring to improperly underinflate footballs during last January’s AFC championship game against the Indiana Colts. The scandal, now famously referred to as “Deflategate,” tarnished Brady’s reputation.
Then last week a federal judge overturned Brady’s suspension, citing legal deficiencies in the case against him, allowing Brady to play tonight in Foxborough.
Still, many feel that Brady’s suspension should have been upheld, and that at the least he had to have known about the plan to deflate balls in a championship game.
This week’s “YouSpeak” asks: “Has Tom Brady been cleared in the NFL Deflategate scandal?”
The NFL season opener between the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers will be broadcast live tonight, Thursday, September 10, beginning at 8:30 p.m. on NBC stations.
