Spring 2015 leave deadline / additional drop-in hours
Special hours: week of April 13
The deadline to arrange a Spring 2015 leave of absence (or withdrawal) is Wednesday, April 15 at 5 p.m. Additional drop-in hours have been set up to assist students this week:
- Tuesday, April 14, 2015 2 – 4 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 15, 2015 9 – 10:30 a.m.
- Wednesday, April 15, 2015 2 – 4 p.m.
The USC is holding our usual drop-in hours to assist with all other inquiries, including CGS Summer London leaves and withdrawals, Fall 2015 leaves and withdrawals, and general student questions and concerns.

* First generation college students are those in the first generation of their families to go to college–i.e. students whose parents did not earn bachelor’s degrees, although elder siblings and cousins may be attending college already or have earned four-year degrees.
Leave of Absence deadline (Spring 2015)
Just a friendly reminder that the deadline to arrange a leave of absence for the Spring 2015 semester is Wednesday, April 15 at 5 p.m. If you are an undergraduate student considering a spring leave at this point, review our web page and then call 617-358-1818 to speak with an associate director right away.
Our phone, email, and drop-in/appointment traffic all increase quite a bit as the April 15 deadline approaches, so please contact us as early in the month as possible. We are happy to help!
Weather Closing / 80% tuition refund schedule deadline extended to 2/3
The USC will be closed on February 2 due to severe weather conditions in the Boston area.
As noted in the BU Today article, the deadlines for adding classes for the spring 2015 semester and for MET registration is extended to Tuesday, February 3. The original deadline of Monday, February 2, for students who withdraw or take a leave of absence for the spring 2015 semester to be eligible for 80 percent cancellation of semester tuition charges is extended to February 3. This extension applies only to the standard tuition refund schedule.
Snow closure Jan 27, 2015
The University Service Center will be closed on Tuesday, January 27th due to severe winter weather. Please check www.bu.edu/today for more information about the University closure, and the lastest about when offices will re-open.
USC Open Martin Luther King Day – Jan. 19th
The University Service Center is open for normal business hours (9 am - 5 pm) on Martin Luther King Day, January 19th, 2015. We are generally available for drop-in visitors from 9 am to 11 am, and can make appointments for the afternoon between 2 pm and 4 pm.
As a reminder, this is the last day students may submit leave of absence or withdrawal paperwork for the semester and still receive a 100% cancellation of Spring '15 tuition and fees. Please get in touch with the University Service Center if you have any questions or concerns. We will be happy to help!
Leave of absence/withdrawals after holiday housing closure
Students who arrange a spring leave of absence or withdrawal after December 20 should move out of their on-campus residences within 48 hours. Apartment style residences, including 25 Buick Street and 33 Harry Agganis Way are open during Intersession; dormitory style residences are closed between December 20 and January 15 so students must plan their move out between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, January 16, when dormitory residences re-open.
Intersession Closure – 1 pm 12/24/2014
Boston University will be closed for Intersession beginning at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 and will re-open on Monday, January 5, 2015. If you contact us during Intersession, we will receive your message and respond after we re-open on Monday the 5th.
Undergraduate students wishing to take a leave of absence or withdraw for the Spring 2015 semester should contact us promptly when we re-open from Intersession so we can help you with all necessary steps. If you have previously discussed your plans with a USC Associate Director and just need to complete the required paperwork to finalize your decision, you may click here to access the Spring 2015 Leave of Absence / Withdrawal Request Form. Please note that in order to access the form you will need to enter your BU login and Kerberos password.
Move out date for students not returning in spring – 12/20/14
Students taking a Spring 2015 leave of absence (or withdrawing) who live in on-campus housing must complete residence check-out and return of keys prior to residences closing for Fall semester by Saturday, December 20 at noon.
Updated hours for Spring 2015 leaves or withdrawals
Due to the increase in office traffic as the semester winds to a close, we will be assisting students with Spring 2015 leaves of absence and withdrawals on a drop-in basis between the hours of 9 and 11 a.m. and 2 and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16 through Tuesday, December 23. If your inquiry is not time sensitive, we suggest contacting us by phone to arrange an appointment.
