Leave-Withdrawal Appointment (request to waive or request for meeting)

An appointment to review your leave of absence / withdrawal forms is typically required before requests are approved and records updated.  At this time, we are allowing select students the opportunity to waive the required appointment if they choose, provided they meet all the criteria below:

  • Continuing undergraduate students who are not enrolled for the Fall 2025 semester OR students who are enrolled and have reviewed the published tuition cancellation/refund schedule
  • Continuing undergraduate students who did not sign up for on-campus housing for Fall 2025 OR students assigned to on-campus housing who have reviewed the housing cancellation/refund schedule for undergraduate students, and acknowledge the need to complete residence checkout within 48 hours of requesting the leave, following BU Housing’s detailed checkout instructions here
  • Continuing undergraduate students who have thoroughly reviewed the information around leaves and withdrawals published as linked at www.bu.edu/usc/arranging-a-leave-of-absence-or-withdrawal-for-fall-2025/
  • Have submitted all three forms (inquiry, student experience questionnaire, and official request)
  • Do not have questions* to discuss with our team before we update the Fall 2025 leave or withdrawal request

*I have questions, how do I know if I can waive the appointment or if I should have the appointment?

    • Request an appointment if the question you need answered directly impacts whether you will proceed with the leave or withdrawal request submitted.  For example, you aren’t sure whether to arrange a permanent withdrawal or a leave of absence, based on your plans for the time away.  We will discuss options at a meeting, before you confirm your desired option.
    • If you have questions–about the return from leave process, medical review, post-leave aid adjustments, others–which don’t impact your decision to move ahead with the current leave or withdrawal request, you can waive the appointment.  Instead, share the questions with us separately via email to usc@bu.edu, so we can connect you to the best resources.

You must meet all the criteria above in order to proceed with the appointment request waiver below.

Remember to review all relevant information, before submitting the appointment waiver request:

  • Arranging a leave of absence or withdrawal for Fall 2025:
    • Step 1 shares important information to review
    • Step 2 shares links to required forms
    • Step 3 has information specific to students on F-1/J-1 visas, and
    • Step 4 explains how to check MyBU to confirm a leave or withdrawal has been updated.
  • Medical Review: important information about the medical review process required prior to re-enrolling, for students who have taken a medical leave.
  • Planning Your Return From a Leave of Absence: return / re-enrollment steps listed for spring, fall, and summer semesters; review the one(s) most appropriate for your plans.
  • It is very important to resolve any MyBU holds or to do items in order to smoothly process you leave of absence/withdrawal, and to support your return-from-leave steps.
