BU and City of Boston Joint MLK Day Celebration
Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, author and professor of African American studies at Princeton, delivered the keynote address at Boston University’s MLK Day observance at the George Sherman Union, January 15, attended by about 450 people. The annual event, cohosted by the city of Boston, honors civil rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr. (GRS’55, Hon.’59). This year’s theme, Whose Quest for Peace and Justice?, was inspired by King’s acceptance speech for the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize. In addition to Taylor, other speakers included Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, BU President ad interim Kenneth Freeman, Howard Thurman Center director Nick Bates, and BU students Destiny Perkins (Pardee’25) and Carina Spinola (CAS’26).
