The Fifth Day of Hannukah, 2023
The eight-day Jewish festival of Hannukah—the Festival of Lights—commemorates the miraculous victory of the Maccabees, Jewish freedom fighters, over the Seleucidian Greek occupiers of Israel in 139 BCE. On December 11, the fifth of Hannukah’s eight days, Rabbi Shmuel Posner from the Chabad House in Kenmore Square lit the menorah in front of the George Sherman Union. Photo by Danny Dolan (COM’25)
