Newbury Center Welcomes Special Guests
BU Newbury Center’s September 23 open house welcoming new and returning first-gen students had some special guests: Beverly Tassinari and Brian Tassinari (Questrom’95) (far left), the widow and son of Newbury College founder Edward Tassinari (Wheelock’59,’75), and former Newbury College staff members. The BU center is endowed by a $6 million contribution from the private liberal arts Newbury College in Brookline, which closed in 2019 after more than half a century of serving students from all backgrounds, 70 percent the first in their family to go to college. Newbury director Maria Dykema Erb (center) and staff shared with their visitors how the center has continued their legacy of supporting first-gen students. Photo by Ziyu (Julian) Zhu (CGS’23)
