Baseball’s Hall of Fame Honors David Ortiz (Hon.’17)

Long before he became a Major League Baseball Hall of Fame inductee this week, David “Big Papi” Ortiz was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters at the 2017 BU Commencement. President Robert A. Brown referred to Ortiz’s famous Fenway Park speech after the Boston Marathon bombings, saying Ortiz “reclaimed the city” in his own “eloquent” way. And despite cheers for a speech from Ortiz (Hon.’17), Big Papi just laughed and said, “Thank you very much.” It was enough. Congratulations, Big Papi. Photo by Natasha Moustache
