Photo of Katherine Schaber (CFA'22), left as Amelia and Caroline Emily Calkins (right) as Fran in Beasts by Cayenne Douglass (GRS'21). Schaber wears a long floral skirt, teal shirt and white sweater; she sits in what appears to be a meditative position, her eyes close, hands extended at her sides and her legs spread. She is a white woman with long blonde hair. Calkins wears black jeans and a pink sweater and also sits on the floor of what appears to be a living room. She looks at Schaber.

Beasts at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre

The chaos of American womanhood plays out in Beasts as Judy, an irreverent artist with a propensity for disruption, and her younger sister, Fran, a pregnant suburbanite, played by Caroline Emily Calkins (right), deal with their fraught relationship. Katherine Schaber (CFA’22) (left) plays Amelia, Fran’s doula. Written by Cayenne Douglass (GRS’21) and directed by Kelly Galvin (CFA’17), this BU New Play Initiative runs from April 7 to 17 at Boston Playwrights’ Theatre. Photo by Stratton McCrady
