Riff on Homage to the Auction Block

Prompted by a new exhibition at CFA’s Stone Gallery, Homage to the Auction Block, by Steve Locke (Questrom’84), Gareth Dylan Smith, a CFA assistant professor of music, performed an original improvised piece based on the work of the late drummer Max Roach and contemporary hip-hop drummer Questlove on October 15. Homage to the Auction Block, which is at the gallery through October 27, is part of Locke’s ongoing dialogue on images of racial exploitation in American history. Photo by Cydney Scott
