EPA Honors BU-Enabled Wind Farm
The US Environmental Protection Agency has honored Boston University with a 2021 Green Power Leadership Award for the BU-sponsored South Dakota wind farm. The purchase agreement, validated by nonprofit environmental tech company WattTime, will have two to three times the positive impact compared to a similar project located in New England. It launched in December 2020, when the University began buying clean energy from the farm, fulfilling a key goal of its Climate Action Plan. BU Wind is the largest single active Power Purchase Agreement by any EPA Green Power Partnership college or university. The EPA says BU “was one of just five organizations to be chosen as a Green Power Leadership Award winner….is currently generating 205 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually for BU….enough to meet 100 percent of the institution’s overall electricity use…helping to combat the effects of climate change and realize a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable energy future.” Photo courtesy of ENGIE
