First Night of Hanukkah
The eight-night Jewish holiday Hanukkah, known as the Festival of Lights, commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the second century BCE. One of the nine candles in a menorah is lit each night, with special blessings recited and traditional songs sung.
