David Carr Memorial Service
David Carr was remembered by colleagues and students at a service at BU Wednesday. Carr, 58, New York Times media columnist and COM’s first Andrew R. Lack Professor, died unexpectedly last week. COM colleagues Thomas Fiedler, Martin Nisenholtz, and Christopher Daly spoke, as well as some of Carr’s students. Nearly all noted that beyond his crusty exterior, his years of addiction and recovery had given him a generosity of spirit and a seriousness of purpose. Claire Giangrave (COM’14) (above) said that his deepest lesson was “nothing to do with careers and jobs—it was about life.” Photo by Katherine Taylor
