Free at Last, the University’s tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. (GRS’55, Hon.’59), is the work of Chilean sculptor Sergio Castillo, who taught at BU for a time. The piece’s 50 doves represent peace in all 50 states, and its granite base is engraved with King quotations on peace and equality. It was formally unveiled on May 16, 1975, almost a decade before federal legislation created the King holiday. Photo by Kalman Zabarsky
