Adia Turner, Boston University’s 2019 Student Commencement Speaker, is a homegrown Thurman Center Ambassador. Originally from Stone Mountain, Georgia, Adia came to BU with preliminary knowledge of Howard Thurman and Dr. King given her dad’s background as a chaplain. After finding her way to the HTC during Orientation and bonding with the staff over all-things Batman, Adia fell in love with the mission and people at the HTC and made it her home throughout her BU career.
Adia is a staple at Coffee & Conversation and serves as Tea Time co-facilitator this academic year, inviting students from all backgrounds to enjoy conversation on light topics like the power of music to heavier topics like knowing your rights. In her own words, Adia “found her voice at the HTC” and will apply what she’s learned as a public school teacher in St. Louis, Missouri come September.
