Circular Quay

Sydney’s icons dot Circular Quay—a popular destination with locals and tourists alike. The Opera House and Harbour Bridge sit at opposite ends of the Quay and expensive restaurants, ferries and street performers line the water’s edge. Taronga Zoo, Manly Beach and many other Sydney destinations are accessible by ferry and depart from Circular Quay.

The Sydney Opera House

The orchestra and symphony call the Opera House their home and tickets are quite cheap for students. The acoustics are fantastic so nosebleed seats still offer quite a show. The whole Opera House complex includes five separate performance halls, a five star restaurant and a bar overlooking the harbour. Opera, ballet, symphony, live music, international celebrities, drama, theatre in the round, performance art and children’s theatre all use this space.

Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA)

The Museum of Contemporary Art features a unique array of art from the ‘traditional’ artists to new up-and-coming figures in the contemporary art world. There is an extensive permanent collection and new exhibitions every month. The museum is closed on Tuesdays. Entry to the standing collection is free. The museum’s café is pricey but offers a magnificent view of the harbor and the Opera House.

Café Sydney

This is a great spot to check out when Mom & Dad are in town and you want to introduce them to the city.  This popular eatery has a mix of menu options and an extensive cocktail list. It’s pricey, but worth it!  You can find Cafe Sydney on top of the beautiful old Customs House.

Opera Bar

This is arguably the best place to enjoy the iconic view of Sydney Harbour with a drink in hand.  Sit under the sails of the Opera House and enjoy some live music, bevvies, and nibbles!
