Our paper “Interfacial Hydration Determines Orientational and Functional Dimorphism of Sterol-Derived Raman Tags in Lipid-Coated Nanoparticles” in collaboration with Prof. Straub’s and Prof. Snyder’s groups is published on PNAS! In this work, we probe and model the orientational modes of alkyne-modified sterol derivatives in different categories of lipid membranes, and implement effective Raman tags for the targeted imaging of EGFR-overexpressing cancer cells. Our work combines the molecular understanding of lipid membranes with spectroscopic and microscopic features of lipid-wrapped nanocomposites, and potentially enables cancer detection and identification at the single-cell level.
