Todd Farchione, Ph.D. is a Research Professor in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences and director of the TREND-UP lab at Boston University.
Dr. Farchione directs a research program at Boston University’s Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders that focuses on identifying higher-order, functional mechanisms associated with the development and maintenance of emotional disorders and the dissemination of improved psychological treatments for these disorders. Dr. Farchione is a co-developer of the Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders (UP) and has substantially contributed to evaluating and refining the protocol since its inception. He has also published extensively on the UP and the nature and treatment of emotional disorders in general.
In recent years, his work has focused on digital mental health and on improving the accessibility and delivery of evidence-based treatments in routine care. A consistent goal throughout his career has been to improve the effectiveness and reach of psychological treatments. Developing and establishing the efficacy of an intervention is an important first step, but it does not ensure that effective treatments will reach the people who need them. His research has increasingly focused on that challenge—how treatments can be refined, adapted, and delivered in ways that improve their accessibility and impact in clinical practice.
