Privacy Coordinating Committee

The Boston University Privacy Coordinating Committee is tasked with the continual assessment and improvement of the University’s privacy policies, information, and training opportunities.  To assist in making this information available to the community,  the Privacy website was established as a centralized resource for accessing information about data privacy.  The Committee was convened in September of 2019 to provide a venue for coordination and communication related to privacy issues around the University.

Scope and Responsibilities:

The goals of the Privacy Coordinating Committee are to:

  • assess the University’s current compliance status and activities with regard to privacy regulations and policies;
  • identify the types of personal information collected, stored, used or transmitted by the University and assess those data collection and processing activities;
  • identify gaps in University policy, guidelines, or training regarding the use and dissemination of sensitive data and analyses;
  • assess the policies and practices of peers and relevant professional organizations; and,
  • recommend policies, guidelines, record keeping requirements, information technology and security requirements, and training materials to address these issues.
