Cell Phone Scam

The Boston University Police was made aware of a potential cell phone scam. The suspect contacts the victim and states that they are from the phone provider. They then tell the victim that they attempted to send a bill to them which was returned. They then ask the victim to confirm their address and social security number over the phone. Never give out personal information either over the phone or replies to email. If you need to give out personal information, you should contact the provider directly. If you have received suspicious calls of this nature, contact the BU Police at 617-353-2121 to report the incident. Verizon also has a page outlining different phone scams, http://www22.verizon.com/pages/securityalerts/
