AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE BOSTON UNIVERSITY POLICE DEPARTMENT

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE BOSTON UNIVERSITY POLICE DEPARTMENT:

Fall Recess is nearly upon us! Although you may be preoccupied with school work and preparing for the short break, we would like to take this opportunity to run through some important safety tips. If you’re going away for Fall Recess, please remember:

1. Don’t leave important valuables behind or in plain view. Place such items in a safe, secure place during your absence;
2. Make sure all windows and doors are closed and locked; and,
3. Please unplug all electrical devices, including alarm clocks, televisions,
and computers.

Meanwhile, if you’re staying in the Boston area or remaining on campus, please continue to be attentive and conscientious when i! t comes to your personal safety. Report all suspicious people and activity immediately to the Boston University Police Department by calling 617-353-2121. Or, send an anonymous text tip to 847-411 by typing BU, then type a space, then begin typing your message.

Property crime, such as larcenies and residential burglaries, are crimes of
opportunity within the City of Boston. Although we are a safe campus, Boston University is not immune to these illegal activities. Money, wallets, purses, laptop computers, tablets, iPhones, smart watches, headphones, and other personal valuables are the favored merchandise on the shopping lists of thieves and burglars. Yet, many of these crimes can be easily avoided if you stick to the helpful tips noted above.

Although the Boston University Police Department will be aggressively
patrolling the neighborhoods during your absence, your continued cooperation  and diligence in crime prevention will help all of us to reduce the ! threat of  burglaries and thefts in our community, and lessen the chances that your personal property will be stolen!

From all of us at the Boston University Police Department,

HAVE A SAFE AND RELAXING FALL RECESS, AND A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Scott S. Pare, Acting Chief of Police and Executive Director of Public Safety
