Boston University Police Department to Hold First Public Safety Awareness Event

The Boston University’s Police Department will host its first Public Safety Week, a weeklong event to raise safety awareness on campus and promote the department’s Text Tipline. The event will take place at the George Sherman Union from November 15 – 19.

Public Safety Week was created to help students use all available resources to stay safe on campus. BUPD officers will be on-hand to answer questions, register bikes and laptops and offer RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) demonstrations.  Those interested in registering there laptops can download the the pdf registration form and have their laptops registered as well. Additionally, a representative from the MBTA will be offering tips on how to stay safe on the green line. At the event, students who enter the BUPD’s Text Tipline and emergency numbers into their phones will be entered to win a variety of prizes including two new bicycles provided by Judicial Affairs.

“BUPD’s number one concern is the safety of Boston University students on and off campus,” said Deputy Chief Scott Paré, “we want students to feel comfortable contacting us and the Text Tipline is the perfect tool for them to do so because it allows students to remain anonymous while reporting their concerns.”

The event will run from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the George Sherman Union with RAD demonstrations on Tuesday and Wednesday.
