Two Poems

THE NEW CHURCH
Everything seems right
even the frown on the face
of a passing transcendentalist.
The architect, since demised has sent
word
the steeple is the closest in town
to God 's skyway.
Instead of seven as others
the new church has ten marble steps
to
the main entrance
&
a ramp for those crippled
by acts of men.
The Reverend stands fluttering
like a crystal dove . ..
The Mayor is late.
Rumor has it his chariot was detained
by unknown denominations.
The new church is determined
to set an end to all denominations
by going metric.
