THE FIFTH SEASON
At this stage, and in my case,
she proves
a tender, voluptuous lover
and my visions
fl
y
to
flesh
with such an ease
I look and see whole valleys fill with trees
and a fifth season, manifest by birds.
Within our knowledge of so far
we might have quarried out the place of hiding
used by that hermit season, over both our years:
yet at this stage, and in my case,
reason and searching so are waste of hours
seeing slight movement in another room
has power to stop our hearts in time it takes
the time
to
die to come.- Our fortune,
like the present season, has the look
of a white animal crossing swiftly
the path on which we go, the familiar path,
more known to us than we can daily know.
