About Operations

Our Mission

Boston University’s Operations provides the infrastructure to support the University’s world-class academic eminence. Through strong values in service excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement in an urban environment, Operations supports over 45,000 faculty, staff, students, and visitors every day.

Boston University’s Operations oversees a complex portfolio of services and functions that contribute to and support all members of the University’s community.

Lemuel Murlin, Boston University’s third president, coined the phrase “In the heart of the City, in the service of the City.” For over a century, this has been a guiding principle for stewardship and education. Our partnership with the City of Boston and surrounding neighborhoods creates a service level of excellence that challenges Operations to do better in safety, design, technology, sustainability, transportation, and community.
