Degree Recognition Around the World

Before enrolling, prospective international students are advised to confirm how Boston University’s degrees are recognized in their country of residence or in any country where they plan to work.

Each country has its own policies about foreign or online credentials, which can affect eligibility for:

  • Graduate school admissions in local universities

  • Employment with government agencies or certain regulated industries

  • Professional licensing or certification

If your program leads to a professional license or certification, it’s important to check with your country’s relevant professional body to ensure that a Boston University degree meets its requirements.

Restricted Locations

Due to U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regulations, Boston University’s online programs cannot currently be accessed by individuals physically located in:

  • Cuba

  • Iran

Please note that these restrictions are location-based, not citizenship-based. Students who are citizens of these countries but living elsewhere may still be eligible to enroll.
