Omar is a PhD candidate in Biomedical Engineering. He received his B.E. in Biomedical Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, NJ, where he worked on developing a pediatric medical device for monitoring airflow following a tracheostomy. At BU, Omar is co-advised by Dr. Michael Economo and Dr. Brian DePasquale, and is interested in studying multi-regional neural dynamics during behavior. His goal is to understand how high-level regions in the brain coordinate to modulate low-level motor circuits to produce the appropriate movement patterns. His current work involves investigating the influence of direct projections from the motor cortex to subcortical regions through cell-type specific optogenetic perturbations.
