David Margolis

Dr. Margolis will be leading a discussion on Long-Term Recording of Neural Activity: from Single Cells to Networks. Methods for long-term monitoring of neural activity in vivo have advanced dramatically over the last decade. This talk will present a survey of recording approaches that span spatial and temporal scales of brain dynamics, from the cellular and subcellular level to methods that resolve interactions between brain areas, with particular emphasis on data from the mouse somatosensory system. Chronic recording of neural activity, especially long-term imaging with cellular resolution, has begun to reveal the organization and dynamics of neural ensembles involved in sensory coding, learning, and memory formation that would otherwise have remained unknown.
