Research Interests

Dr. Stangl’s research focuses on understanding how the human brain supports critical cognitive and behavioral functions in our everyday life, such as spatial navigation and memory, and on the sources of age-related impairments in these functions. Methodologically, he employs non-invasive neuroimaging methods (e.g., fMRI and fNIRS) and invasive neurophysiological recording techniques (e.g., intracranial EEG and human single neuron recordings) to study human brain function in both controlled laboratory settings and during natural movement and behavior in the ‘real world’.
