Joanna Chiu received her B.S. in Bioengineering: Biotechnology from the University of California, San Diego in 2012. During her undergraduate career, she worked as an EDGE intern and research assistant in Dr.  Stephen Mayfield’s laboratory. There she genetically engineered algae to produce protein therapeutics and to study the regulatory pathways of the chloroplast genome.

Joanna entered the post-bachelor’s Ph.D. program in Biomedical Engineering at Boston University in the fall of 2012, and is a Ph.D. candidate mentored by Dr. Tyrone Porter. Her current interests lie in nanomedicine, and she is experimenting with hybrid liposomal technology for gene and drug delivery.
