Help with BU Websites

BU has a number of ready-made WordPress themes for use as BU websites. You can request a website through IS&T. They also provide helpful information for how to build a BU WordPress site, from publishing pages to embedding videos.

For those who are brand-new to WordPress, be sure to take IS&T’s WordPress training courses. These classes, available online or in person, are offered periodically throughout the fall and spring terms.

Please note that these classes are very basic and may not be helpful for people who already have some familiarity with WordPress.

What is Google Analytics and how do I use it?

Google Analytics is a platform that collects data from your website that can be used to provide insights into your business and/or audience(s). The University has an “All BU” Google Analytics account implemented across its network of websites. However, it’s highly recommended that each department/school create and implement a separate account for data that is most relevant to them. Using the University’s account requires more knowledge on how to segment traffic that’s related to the website(s) you’re interested in.

Analytics Mania is also another great source for straightforward guidance.

If you have more specific questions, YouTube has a lot of content available by searching.

Running a broken link report is a great way to quickly identify and fix an issue that frustrates many website visitors.

If you are about to launch a site, you will receive a broken link report as part of IS&T’s site review process. This provides you the ability to review and fix any links prior to launch.

If it’s been a few years since launch, and/or if your website has had any structural changes, you can submit a ticket to IS&T to request a new broken link report to help maintain your website.

BU has Minimum Web Accessibility Standards that all sites must follow. IS&T’s page on Maintaining Accessible Content is a great place to start to make sure your website meets these standards.
