Computer Science for All with NJ Umoh (CAS’23)
Nsikan Umoh, aka NJ, is a junior majoring in computer science at the College of Arts and Sciences. His venture, CompSciLib, is an all-in-one platform for computer science and technology tools, helping ease the process of learning Computer Science for students as well as professionals.
CompSciLib also won third place and $6k at our #NewVentureCompetition finale in April!
“As a computer science major myself, I know how hard it is as a subject, so I tried to become a tutor to help people. However, I realized I still couldn’t help as many people as I wanted to. So, making an Ed-tech platform that can help as many people as possible is what inspired me to get CompSciLib up and running.”
“During this process, the Build Lab helped me immensely. There are so many great advisors at the BUild Lab. I worked directly with Tom Samph since he has an Ed-tech background. There are also so many programs such as the New Venture Competition, the First Year Innovation Fellowship, and the Innovation Pathway that have allowed students like me to get their dreams up and running.”
When asked to give some advice to our fellow terriers who are thinking about starting an idea, NJ advised:
“You don’t have to be a software engineer to get your startup up and running. And secondly, you don’t want to be with people that make you too comfortable; you want to be with people who challenge you to be the best version of yourself and they’ll call you out on any idea that may not sound good to them, ultimately making y’all compromise so that you get the best ideas running for your venture.“
