Indigobirds can be very difficult to identify to species in the field despite morphological differences among species. Feather, leg, and bill color can appear different under different light conditions. The color of the legs and bill can also be obscured by soil picked up while feeding on the ground. Therefore, a better strategy is to  use mimicry of the host song as a reference for species identification.
