Mr. Francisco Morey is a journalist focused on the public understanding of science. Since 2002, he has worked as a public information officer for Universidad Austral de Chile’s Nucleus FORECOS. This scientific group focuses on the study of ecosystem services as key elements of social development-specifically the role of forests in the hydrological cycle, and the importance of this cycle for sustaining human life.

Throughout his career, Mr. Morey has dedicated himself to presenting information on emerging scientific topics in ways that bridge the gap between the scientific community and mainstream society. He hopes to create a National System for the Social Communication of Science, thereby encouraging scientific accountability for public resources and citizen involvement in scientific advancements.

In Chile, Mr. Morey’s work is making a profound impact, as demonstrated by his outstanding record of presentations in national and international congresses.

During his Humphrey year, Mr. Morey plans to strengthen his knowledge of the social communication of science, interact with other professionals in his field, and learn about the impact that new technologies and social networks could have on the development of his country.
