Khaing Thandar Nyunt
Ms. Nyunt is an assistant director of the Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM), where she oversees two separate divisions. As the head of foreign exchange markets, she leads the foreign currency auction, a managed, floating foreign exchange rate system specific to Myanmar. She also runs the Interbank foreign exchange market, a decentralized, wholesale foreign exchange market mainly used for trading among bankers. As head of the administrative division, she manages human resources and personnel management. Prior to her appointment at CBM, she spent seven years as assistant manager of Myanmar Investment and Commercial Bank.
Ms. Nyunt holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Myanmar’s Yangon University of Economics, a master’s degree in public policy from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, Japan, and a diploma in accounting from the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
As a Humphrey Fellow, Ms. Nyunt aims to internationalize her understanding of monetary policy and central banking management. Upon her return to Myanmar, she will work to build the country’s banking infrastructure and usher its integration into the global economy.
