African Strategies for Health (ASH) Intern
Scope of Work
Program Activity: Website and Graphic Design

Number of days: 10 – 20 hours per week
Dates: January – May 2015 (flexible)
Principal working office: Arlington, VA (option for working remotely)
Compensation: No financial compensation is available with this internship
Criteria: Applicant must be either a current student receiving credit for the internship or fulfilling a requirement to complete an internship/practicum
1) Background:
The purpose of this internship is to provide support to Management Sciences for Health’s African Strategies for Health (ASH) project. ASH comprises a dynamic team working to improve the health status of populations across Africa through identifying and advocating for best practices, enhancing technical capacity, and engaging African regional institutions to address health issues in a sustainable manner. The ASH project works across the technical areas of maternal, newborn and child health, infectious diseases, health systems strengthening, monitoring and evaluation, and advocacy and communications.
The internship will contribute to improving the communication of ASH’s efforts and results across health areas through a focus on (1) supporting the development of and updates to the ASH website and (2) designing data visualization products.
2) Objectives:
1. Update content of the ASH website (www.africanstrategies4health.org)
2. Design infographics, presentations and other forms of data visualization to communicate ASH’s work and activity findings
3. Format reports, technical briefs and web announcements
3) Outputs/Deliverables:
- Current and updated ASH website
- A minimum of five infographics and/or other data visualization products
- Formatted reports, technical briefs, and web announcement
