This week we launched our latest GlobalPost Special Report “Step by Step: The Path to Ending Child Mortality.” If you have not had a chance to see it, please take the time to explore. This was an extraordinary reporting effort that stretched across three continents and six months by a talented team of journalists who have produced an important body of work on an under-covered story. It is powerful, innovative, interactive, narrative storytelling at its best.
The topic is not an easy one: Nearly 7 million children die before the age of 5 every year, largely from preventable causes. But, as our reporting team discovered, it is not all bad news in the struggle to end child mortality. The under-5 death rate is steadily declining due to many successful, even heroic efforts. So we have set out to look at what works — as well as difficult challenges — on the hard road to ending child mortality.
