Local Public Health Institute of MA at BUSPH is looking to hire a teaching assistant for a 50 hour course being taught from October 2014 to March 2015.
Title: Teaching Assistant I
Hours: approximately 60-75 spread out over 5-6 months
Salary: $15/hour
The teaching assistant will be helping with the Foundations Course for the Local Public Health Institute of MA. This is a 50 hour blended format course designed to teach those in the public health field about the basics of local public health practice. The TA will attend all class sessions, both in-person and virtually, and assist the course director with all aspects of course management. They will be responsible for tracking students’ completion of assignments. The TA will provide professional correspondence with students regularly. This includes responding to email requests within 24 hours. This job will include some travel to Boylston, MA.
Qualifications:
- MPH or MPH candidate
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience with databases, including Microsoft Excel
- High level of organization skills
- Ability to balance multiple projects at the same time
- Availability over school breaks including winter break
- Interest in local public health a plus
- Valid driver’s license and a car are a plus (travel expenses reimbursed)

- Assist with resource categorization and re-organization
- Assist with development and implementation of a marketing strategy
- Internal: Create a monthly newsletter template to showcase our work
- External: Develop a template for email outreach to former and existing staff, consultants and partners
- Establish our social media presence
- Outline a document dissemination process
- Identify other strategies for broadcasting/promoting our work

ESOL/Adult Literacy Teaching and Curriculum Development Internship available now in Boston!
Internship opportunities for individuals to teach English and adult literacy and design lesson plans for our intensive ESOL classes through our ESOL/Adult Literacy Teaching and Curriculum Development Internship. We are a 501(c)3 organization helping low-income immigrants integrate into the Boston community. Interns will work with our team to create lesson plans for a variety of English levels and receive training to tutor and teach students. This program will provide interns with extensive training and opportunities to develop teaching and leadership skills. This is an unpaid position. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:
- Commit to 10 hours per week (minimum of 6 hours in the office/classroom)
- English Fluency
- Background or strong interest in teaching and education
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- A proactive work ethic and professional demeanor
- Ability to work in a collaborative setting and willingness to accept constructive feedback
- Interest in working with underserved immigrant populations and gaining experience teaching ESOL and literacy
