A note from Global Post: Special Reports team wins public health reporting award
Please join me in congratulating our Special Reports team that produced 'Step by Step: The Path to Ending Child Mortality' as it has won the Association of Health Care Journalists' First Place Award for Excellence in Health Care Journalism in the category of 'Public Health' (for a 'Large' audience).
Last year, The Wall Street Journal, PBS Frontline, and The Boston Globe won in the different categories. It is a prestigious prize for health reporting and the award will be given at a three-day conference later this month in Denver where many colleagues, thought leaders and policy makers in global health will have a chance to see the important, compelling project our team produced.
So congrats to all 18 members of the team who were part of the entry and who have received some much-deserved recognition for an outstanding body of work. This project was truly a team effort, but the team captains were Emily Judem and Marissa Miley, who worked tirelessly over the summer. It included dogged reporting in the field, elegant writing on a complex subject, powerful photography and video, innovative graphics and use of data. Special thanks to our Columbia J-School reporting fellows, Harman Boparai and Elizabeth Stuart, for their major contribution and to GlobalPost's development team for the outstanding 'responsive' design. Thanks to the Pulitzer Center for its innovative work on the map/graphics, and to the Kaiser Family Foundation for supporting the work we do on global health. Thanks also to the Bake Family Trust for supporting all of our Special Reports operations.
We have known this for a while, but we are now finally able to publicly share the good news. So, again, great job and congrats to the whole team!
Cheers,
Charles M. Sennott
