Graduate Level Internship, Strategic Assessment and Planning, ID, 5962

PATH is an international organization that drives transformative innovation to save lives and improve health, especially among women and children. We accelerate innovation across five platforms—vaccines, drugs, diagnostics, devices, and system and service innovations—that harness our entrepreneurial insight, scientific and public health expertise, and passion for health equity. By mobilizing partners around the world, we take innovation to scale, working alongside countries primarily in Africa and Asia to tackle their greatest health needs. Together, we deliver measurable results that disrupt the cycle of poor health.

Internship project background and aims:

The primary purpose of this internship is to provide a dynamic and structured learning opportunity to assist in the development of country strategies in the context of changing public health and development realities and priorities (urbanization, increased GDP, aging populations, increased rates of obesity and NCDs, increased mobile phone penetration among others,) and in line with PATH’s “One Path” Global Strategy. The successful candidate will participate in researching and analyzing health and economic data related to the burden of disease, indicators of political will, human capacity and funding opportunities and in conjunction with a cross cutting team, provide synthesis and recommendations through health and business case analysis and presentations. Under the supervision of the team leader, a key aspect of this internship is to coordinate work on multiple discrete projects, including research and analysis of journal articles, grey literature and consultations with experts from within PATH, the public sector, NGOs and the private sector. The intern will also coordinate and, in some cases, participate in technical meetings, consultations and interviews and will provide documentation of meetings and outcomes including action items and timelines for completion.

Benefit to Intern:
Intern will gain specific skills around strategy development, mapping and managing deadlines, and assessing burden and feasibility of programmatic and policy components.  Using existing datasets, analysis will include assessment of magnitude of PH problems at the national level, assessment of political will, financial viability and capacity.  This information will be used to discuss, identify and map strategic opportunities in the context of core competencies of PATH.

Goals and learning objectives:

Analysis and synthesis of global and national burden of disease and other public health data
