Caught in Conflict: The Journeys of Child Soldiers
October 21, 2013; 6 p.m.
John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum, 79 JFK St, Cambridge, MA

This panel discussion will tackle the problem of child soldiers around the world today. Panelists, like former child soldier Ishmael Beah and the UN’s Leila Zerrougui, will reflect on their personal experiences with this issue. This event serves as the launch of a new report from the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative’s Women in War program on the reintegration of former child soldiers in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. This event is hosted by the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum at the Institute of Politics and the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative and part of the HUMANITY EXPLORED series.

Speakers:
Jimmie Briggs – Moderator, author of Innocents Lost: When Child Soldiers Go To War
Ishmael Beah, former child soldier from Sierra Leone, author of A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier
Jocelyn Kelly, Director, Women in War program, Harvard Humanitarian Initiative
Leila Zerrougui, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, United Nations
