Overview:

The Global Public Health (GPH) Program at Quinnipiac University comprises an undergraduate minor in GPH that is sponsored by the Department of Philosophy and Political Science of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), and a theme of global, public and community health (GPCH) within the Scholarly Reflection and Capstone Course of the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine (SOM). The broad goal of GPH at Quinnipiac is to provide an interdisciplinary focus of study that enables students to understand and to promote individual and population health throughout the world. With strong student and faculty interest in GPH this will be a growth area for Quinnipiac University.

The position of coordinator is wide-ranging and encompasses the key skills of organization, communication, creativity and flexibility. The coordinator reports to the Director of GPH Programs and works closely with administrative units in the Netter SOM, the CAS, and with medical and health sciences students, undergraduates and faculty. The coordinator will contribute to the development of GPH at Quinnipiac University.

Responsibilities:

Working under the direction of the Director of Global Public Health Programs and in collaboration with Quinnipiac University faculty and administration, the GPH coordinator will:

  • Identify, review and catalog community sites that will provide high quality longitudinal academic student experiences. This work will be closely coordinated with the Office of Community Service.
  • Identify, review and catalog international and national sites for student experiences that will provide high quality academic rotations. This work will be closely coordinated with the Office of Multicultural and Global Education and the Albert Schweitzer Institute.
  • Help in the coordination and documentation of student (medical, health sciences and undergraduate students) community and international rotations by meeting with students and rotation/site hosts to assure effective communication and an educationally rich environment.
  • Coordinate student application to the undergraduate GPH minor.
  • Maintain databases of students in the GPH minor and the SRCC GPCH concentration.
  • Contribute to article and text resources in global, public and community health.
  • Occasional travel locally, domestically and internationally to visit sites and engage with colleagues in GPH
  • Additional duties as may be required for the smooth functioning of the GPH programs.

Qualifications and Special Instructions to Applicants:

  • Masters degree or higher in education, student services, global or public health, or related field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations and/or community and international partners.
  • Strong service orientation and commitment to teamwork.
  • Strong organization and managerial skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with appropriate guidance.
  • Experience working in university, community or international settings

Additional Desirable Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience in social media development
  • Experience in grant writing
  • Foreign language competence
