Clinical Addiction Research and Education (CARE) Unit – Research Assistant (RA)
The BU School of Medicine/Boston Medical Center’s Clinical Addiction Research and Education (CARE) Unit is seeking a bright and motivated student to assist faculty and staff with research activities. The CARE Unit is an academic unit addressing clinical, education, and research aspects of alcohol and other drug use disorders, including the relationship between substance use and HIV/AIDS in international settings.
Research Assistant (RA) responsibilities may include:
- Literature searches & maintaining a reference database (i.e., RefWorks)
- Writing summaries of scientific articles
- Creating & editing research presentations with PowerPoint
- Editing & submitting journal articles
- Assisting in the preparation of grant proposals
- Coordinating meetings (e.g., preparing handouts, taking minutes, arranging conference calls)
- Making travel arrangements
- Assisting with planning and evaluation of an addiction medicine training program
- Setting up and orienting international fellows and other visiting trainees
- Editing website content
- Misc. tasks (e.g., on-campus errands, data entry, and chart review)
Preferred experience, skills, & interests:
- Searching for references using library databases
- Summarizing articles for academic papers
- Enrolled in a Masters degree of public health program
- Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects in a deadline-driven environment
- Enjoys working both independently and as part of a team
- Interest in HIV or addiction issues

Assistant Director, Civil Liberties and Public Policy Program
Hampshire College, an independent, innovative liberal arts institution, is seeking an Assistant Director for the Civil Liberties and Public Policy (CLPP) Program, a national project that equips and inspires new generations of leaders through campus-based education, real-world advocacy practice, and the skills to build a stronger, more diverse movement for reproductive freedom and social change.
Reporting to the CLPP Director, the Assistant Director advances CLPP's mission through management and oversight of three major projects: CLPP's summer internship program (Reproductive Rights Activist Service Corps); national activist network (New Leadership Networking Initiative); and intensive Summer Leadership Institute. The Assistant Director will be responsible for conducting outreach, securing participation, and developing programming that meets project goals and advances CLPP's mission of supporting new leadership. This position is responsible for managing and working collaboratively with staff, faculty, college departments, organizational partners, and evaluating the projects. The Assistant Director will be expected to stand in for the CLPP directors as needed and represent CLPP at the college and externally in national venues.
This is a full time grant funded position with continuation pending future funding.
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of relevant experience are required. Qualified candidates should have extensive project management experience; familiarity with reproductive rights and social justice issues; experience working with diverse communities, including people with different racial, ethnic and class backgrounds, and people of different genders. Previous supervisory experience, as well as practice working as a mentor to emerging activists or students is preferred. Candidates must have technology skills and experience in website and social media tools; be computer proficient (Word, Excel, and web-based software); and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Assistant Director will be expected to work collaboratively; prioritize multiple, competing demands, and problem-solve independently with minimal supervision. A commitment to CLPP's mission is essential. This position requires occasional evenings and weekends.

IH student, Katia Gomez, is looking for participation from faculty, staff, and students throughout BUSPH to help her NGO, Educate2Envision International, launch a campaign for the upcoming International Day of the Girl Child on October 11!
PROJECT: HER WORLD hopes to reach girls in 50 countries in 30 days and share their wish for the future. Katia is asking for help from those who have contacts abroad and would not mind sharing this message throughout their networks. At the end of the campaign, E2E will compile a collage of all the submissions from around the world and distribute them to all who participanted.

Join Dr. Heidi Behforouz,director of Partners In Health’s (PIH) Prevention and Access to Care and Treatment (PACT) program (http://www.pih.org/pages/usa/), as she speaks on the PACT's findings that well-supported and well-integrated CHWs enable care teams to improve their patients’ health outcomes and reduce expenditures on healthcare. Based on the accompagnateur model pioneered in rural Haiti, the PACT project focuses on effectively integrating community health workers (CHWs) into primary care and mental health teams. PACT partners with clinics to develop the infrastructure, culture, quality improvement tools, and skills necessary to support effective CHW interventions for the most vulnerable patients. Dr. Behforouz will speak about PACT's findings that well-supported and well-integrated CHWs enable care teams to improve their patients’ health outcomes and reduce expenditures on healthcare.
