Writing assistants will guide you through any type of assignment* and any stage of the writing process – from brainstorming to strategizing ways to strengthen your paper.   We are open the following times (other times available by request):

  • Mondays from 1pm-7pm
  • Tuesdays from 10am-1pm
  • Wednesday from 10am-1pm
  • Thursdays from 1pm-7pm

Core Course Tutors Needed!

The BUSPH Core Course Tutoring Program is currently recruiting tutors for the fall semester.  The Core Course Tutoring Program is designed to provide free tutoring in the MPH core courses for MPH students. Tutors are needed for all core courses and may be from any concentration and any degree program.

Tutors are BUSPH students who:

  • excelled in the core course they would like to tutor (earned an A- or A in the course),
  • can provide at least two hours per week of tutoring,
  • have excellent communication skills, and
  • are able to be discreet with confidential information.  All information pertaining to students being tutored, the tutoring sessions, and student grades is confidential.  Tutors who relate any information to unauthorized individuals will be terminated from the program and may be subject to further disciplinary action.

Tutors will work in conjunction with the Tutor Coordinator and Education Office and are required to complete a training prior to tutoring and attend a training during the semester.  Tutors will be compensated $15 per hour.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.  Priority will be given to applications submitted by Monday, September, 17, 2012.

Tomorrow 10/19 join PH825 to hear two members of the CDC discuss their Global Disease Detection Program

Friday 10/19 8:30 to 9:30AM, students are invited to sit in on PH825: Human and environmental factors influencing the emergence of infectious diseases to hear two interesting speakers!

 Two speakers from the CDC, Tony Ao and Sonia Hegde will be presenting via the web.  They will be talking about CDC's Global Disease Detection (GDD) Program and their own field experiences working with Nipah virus outbreaks in Bangladesh.  In addition, they will be describing and taking questions about the postitions they have at the CDC, Tony as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer and Sonia as an ASPH/CDC Allan Rosenfield Global Health Fellow.  

The meeting with Tony and Sonia will start promptly at 8:30 in Room L213 and last about an hour.

Research Assistant Position Available-Community Based Participatory Research

The Research Assistant for the Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) infrastructure will work with the PIs to develop and foster the growth of CBPR at BUSPH.  The RA will work with faculty in the development of reports of the CBPR activities at SPH, and assist in development of a CBPR website; they will act as liaison with various departments and faculty within SPH to collect information and to create and build a database of researchers, community organizations, funders and relevant RFPs; and they will establish a moderated e-mail list serve. The student will work well in a team setting as well as take initiative in implementing the actions, including conducting interviews and making cold calls to faculty and community organizations. The position will pay $15 per hour and requires approximately 16.5 hours a week for the year.  Those interested please send a resume and cover letter to Carolyn Weber (carolyn5@bu.edu).
