Dr. Stanekzai, a native of Afghanistan, will discuss his implementation of several projects in his home country, as well as his work as the Director of an NGO, Officer for UNICEF, and more.

Dr. Hedayatullah Stanekzai, was the Team Leader of the BASICS/Afghanistan—a child survival project since 2008.  This project was recently handed over to the Ministry of Public Health and he now serves as a policy advisor on child health to the Ministry.  Prior to that, he served in the MOPH from 2001 to 2005 as the General Director of Policy and Planning.  He guided development of the policies for the new health system and provided guidance for the development of the Basic Package of Health Services, the Essential Package of Hospital Services, and the elaboration of the mechanism for contracting out of health service delivery. From 2005 to 2008 he was the Director General of MRCA, an international NGO, managing a health services implementation program employing 500 regular staff in 4 provinces. He has also been a Health and Nutrition Officer for UNICEF.  Dr. Stanekzai received a medical degree from Kabul University in 1988 and obtained certificates in public health and nutrition and health management.
