Heat Advisory – July 15-18, 2025

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Boston area Tuesday, July 15 through Friday, July 18. Heat temperatures for the next two days will be in the 90s with high humidity making it feel even warmer.

Boston University will open cooling centers for summer program students and others in the BU community seeking relief from the heat at the following locations. Cooling Center Locations and Hours of Operation:

  • Questrom School of Business Lobby, 595 Commonwealth Avenue: Midnight-7AM (Card Access)
  • Duan Family Center for Data and Computing Sciences Lobby, 665 Commonwealth Avenue: 7AM-10PM (Card Access after 7PM)
  • George Sherman Union, 775 Commonwealth Avenue: 7AM-Midnight
  • Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground Lobby, 808 Commonwealth Avenue: 9AM-5PM (Monday & Tuesday)
  • 522 Park Drive Basement Lounge (South Campus Residents Only), 522 Park Drive: 24 hours Note: South Campus location is inaccessible for those with mobility impairments. Students with accessibility concerns should use the GSU location

Summer Program Residents Only

  • Claflin Hall, Basement Room B11B and B11C, 273 Babcock St: 24 hours
  • Rich Hall, Room 110 – Cinema Room, 277 Babcock St: 24 hours
  • Sleeper Hall, Room 210A, 210B, and 212, 275 Babcock St: 24 hours

BU students, faculty and staff are reminded to take precautions against heat-related illness or injuries. Physical activities or outside work should be limited between 10AM and 3PM and/or when the temperature exceeds 90 degrees. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. When outside, remember to seek out shaded areas, wear clothing that is light-colored and loose fitting and apply sunscreen.

Students, faculty, or staff who are on campus and believe they may be experiencing a heat-related emergency on the Charles River Campus should call BUPD at 617-353-2121 and 617-358-4444 on the Medical Campus; off campus should call 911.
