2014 Integrated Pilot Program Emerging Outcomes-to-Date
- $610,327 in pilot funding was awarded in 2014 to 38 investigators for 37 projects from eight funding sources overseen by CTSI administrators (Figures 1-2).
- Awardees attributed pilot funding for contributing to obtaining $4,960,724 in external funding and $112,800 in internal funding, with $16,604,929 still in review (Figure 3).
- External funding awarded includes three R01s, two R21s, one P30, one K08 and several other proposals are in review, including two R01 proposals and a U54 proposal.
- 22 awardees (58%) were early career investigators, a goal of the pilot program in supporting faculty career development in working toward independent investigation.image008_1
- 20 awardees were woman (53%) and 18 of the awardees were men (47%).
- Four pilot projects reported four publications, with other projects reporting 19 manuscripts in development or submitted and under review.
- 23 awardees (61%) reported developing novel methods, tools and/or discoveries, a goal of the pilot program in catalyzing innovation.
- Two awardees reported provisional IP filings and two more exploring provisional IP possibilities.
- In 20 of the projects (54%), awardees reported some obstacles that caused project delays, which triggered pilot program improvements to be made regarding periodic monitoring following the notice of awards to assist with minimizing obstacles (regulatory, recruitment, animal models, working with collaborators and access to services).
