Crafting the narrative; telling our stories

First a bit on COVID, then a small request.

COVID will surely provide a wealth of material for future Monday morning armchair quarterbacking. One aspect (among many) of the overall public health response that has received harsh and severe criticism has been the approach, style, and substance of communications with the general public. NCATS Diversity Supplements—Apply by November 1st

Addressing the most pressing and complex clinical and translational science problems requires the collective expertise and creativity of a diverse scientific workforce. Studies have shown that diverse teams outperform homogeneous teams, produce better science, and help break down assumptions that persons from certain backgrounds perhaps do not ‘‘fit in’’ or belong in science. Indeed, it is said that great minds think differently. A diverse workforce is essential to the NCATS goal of getting more treatments to more patients more quickly. Continue reading here >

CLIC Cohorts for Change Workshop Series Kickoff & Webpage Launch

The CLIC Cohorts for Change workshop series will be kicking off in October! This 6-month training program will focus on giving participants the knowledge and skills to further develop structural and administrative anti-racism initiatives within their CTSA Program hub.

The series is limited to small groups of nominated participants, but CLIC has created a space for the translational science community to follow along over the next six months.

Apply to Host an Un-Meeting!

CLIC is accepting applications from CTSA Program hubs interested in hosting an in-person or virtual Un-Meeting on a topic of their choice. The selected applicants will receive funds to support a one-day Un-Meeting in early 2022, along with planning guidance, high-level coordination, and materials from CLIC.

The proposed topic for the Un-Meeting should address a current or emerging public health issue or involve an emerging technology or approach of significant importance to translational science. Applicants should particularly consider how the suggested theme aligns with and will impact national CTSA Program efforts. Engagement with the local community is also encouraged.

Applications are due September 27, 2021, by 5:00 PM ET.
