Situational Awareness
A publication in Science Translational Medicine from last month, ‘ Undiagnosed SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity during the first 6 months of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States‘ is noteworthy for several highlights. Beyond the science of the article itself, the fact that this work represents the efforts of two CTSAs, as well as NIH intramural institutes and centers, is a testament to the role and value of team science to assemble a diverse skill set required to coordinate the US COVID pandemic response. THE SPOTLIGHTSpotlight on Six New CTSA FOAsNCATS recently solicited feedback on the NCATS CTSA Program from the stakeholder community through a variety of mechanisms, including through a 2019 public Request for Information (NOT-TR-19-027) and general feedback from CTSA application peer reviewers (video). The most recent comments and questions were received in response to the presentation and discussion of the CTSA Program Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) Concepts at the NCATS Advisory Council Open Session on June 11, 2021 (see Videocast and Minutes), and during the two-week open comment period. NCATS appreciates the interest that the brief Concept presentations stimulated and systematically considered all comments received. In response to feedback on several dimensions of the CTSA Program, NCATS incorporated many of the suggestions about application structure and submission into a new FOA (UM1) PAR-21-293 that invites applications for the new Clinical and Translational Science Award (UM1) hub awards.
